Sewer Cleaning and Vactoring

Service Information

The oldest sewer system in the world is the Cloaca Maxima, or Great Sewer in Rome, Italy.  Construction of the large underground channel began around 500 BCE, when a stream draining into the Tiber River was lined with stone.  In the 3rd century BCE, the channel was completely enclosed with a barrel vault.  Today, in some lengths of this same channel the stone work has been replaced with concrete allowing those parts to be integrated into the storm drainage system of modern Rome.

Although most sewage systems are considerably younger than the 2500 year old Cloaca Maxima, they still require regular maintenance and cleaning to be utilized.  Grease, detergents, roots and debris can block the most modern systems.  Ake Laboratory's fleet of Myers jet trucks use vactors and highly pressurized water jets to clean lines and perform a variety of other services for our municipal, industrial and business clientele.
